WOOD-RIDGE - A Wood-Ridge resident and high school student wants to become the town’s newest school board member.

Dylan O'Byrne is a senior at Wood-Ridge High School and president of the student body.

The 18-year-old says he wants to upgrade the district’s science labs, stop high turnover among administrators and fight to keep the budget low.

If elected, O’Byrne says he hopes to bring fresh and new perspective to the board. Less than 1 percent of the state’s school board members are under 25.

O'Byrne has applied to several colleges in New Jersey so he can remain in the area to serve the entire three-year term if elected.
