Authorities say a 79-year-old woman walking her dog is in serious condition after being struck by a car police were chasing.

NEWARK - Authorities say a 79-year-old woman walking her dog is in serious condition after being struck by a car police were chasing.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said the accident happened just before noon Thursday near Branch Brook Park when a gold 2002 Nissan Sentra hit the woman. A driver and passenger of a Mercury Sable were also injured. All three were taken to University Hospital.

The woman is in serious condition. The others had less serious injuries.

Authorities have not released the names of anyone involved.

No arrests have been made in the case.

There were no further details on the dog.
