JERSEY CITY - Officials say a woman is recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest after being shot outside a bar where Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy was attending a campaign event.
Police say the woman was shot Saturday evening in front of the bar that was hosting a meet-and-greet for council candidate Gerald Meyer. Councilwoman Viola Richardson was also at the event.
Investigators say Rahmed Jones, 24, of Clark Street, has been charged with the shooting. They believe the woman was the innocent victim of a botched drug deal.
A second fatal shooting happened overnight near Kingston Avenue, and family members have identified the victim as 24-year-old Hakim Hill. Police are looking for a silver Lexus in connection with the Kingston Avenue shooting.
