NEWARK - Gunfire last night near the Prudential Center in Newark has left a woman dead and a man wounded.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker said last night the shooting "strikes a blow to what this city stands for and all the progress we are making." The shots were fired less than a block from the arena, which recently hosted auditions for the TV show "The X-Factor" and the NCAA East Regional basketball tournament.

The names of the victims have not been released.
