PARK RIDGE - Police say a 50-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis was killed this morning in a fire at a Park Ridge apartment building. Authorities say the fire broke out at around 5 a.m. at 37 Pascack Road. Fire officials say they believe the fire started in the basement of the building. Police say firefighters kicked in the door, but couldn't rescue Karen Ivaldi. Lillian Pappas, a friend of Ivaldi, says she was a professional photographer before she was affected by the disease. Pappas says she took photos of soap opera stars and they appeared in Soap Opera Digest.
