WEEHAWKEN - A woman was badly injured after she reportedly ran her car into the back of a tractor-trailer in Weehawken Thursday evening.

The accident happened just before the evening rush hour on Willow Avenue. Authorities believe speed may have been a factor in the accident. The woman hit the truck so hard that her car became wedged underneath. She had apparently just exited the Lincoln Tunnel prior to the accident.

It took rescuers from Weehawken and Union City about 30 minutes to get her out. She suffered compound fractures to both of her legs and was taken to Jersey City Medical Center.

The accident caused a major traffic backup in the area around the Lincoln Tunnel. Some motorists who spoke with News 12 New Jersey say that they were stuck in traffic for about 90 minutes.
