Woman arrested in Bloomfield hit-and-run

PATTERSON - Police have arrested the woman they say is responsible for hitting a man on the Garden State Parkway last week and driving off.

Police say 43-year-old Usha Govindarajulu, of Jersey City, struck Donald Drakeford with her Nissan Altima while he was changing his tire. He suffered suffered a compound fracture to his leg 

According to police, Govindarajulu stopped to pick up debris after hitting Drakeford and then she drove off.

Drakeford's family praised New Jersey State Police for making an arrest. 

Govindarajulu is listed as a professor at SUNY Downstate School of Public Health, according to Drakeford's family.

Govindarajulu is facing several charges including assault by auto and leaving the scene of an accident.
