Woman arrested in 1984 abduction pleads not guilty

SOMERVILLE - A former New Jersey woman arrested for taking her daughter 26 years ago from New Jersey appeared today at her first court appearance in the Garden State.

Nancy Dunsavage, who has been living under the name Debbie Reed, appeared at the Somerset County Courthouse in Somerville where she pleaded not guilty to a custodial interference charge.

Dunsavage was arrested Oct. 5 on a fugitive warrant from Somerset County at her home near Lake Tahoe, Nev., where she had lived with her daughter, now 32.

Prosecutors say Dunsavage did not have custody of Eva Marie Fiedler, then 6, when the two vanished during a break in a 1984 custody hearing at the same courthouse.

The former Somerville woman received a low bail and is expected to be released.
