Woman accused of dumping dog down trash chute

NEWARK - Authorities have accused a Newark womanof dumping a starved 1-year-old pit bull down a Newark apartment building's trash chute.

The New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says it has charged 28-year-old Kisha Curtis with four counts of animal cruelty.

The red pit bull mix, who has been named Patrick, was found near-death in a trash bag on March 16 by a building custodian.

The dog was taken to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, where it was determined the dog was severely anemic and malnourished.

Doctors say Patrick will be put up for adoption if he continues to improve and recovers.

AP wire services contributed to this report.
