SOMERVILLE - The suspect in the violent attack on a woman in her Somerset County home appeared in court Tuesday.
Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey Soriano announced today that Winston Wilson Jr., 24, of Linden, was charged with attempted murder of an 18-year-old Franklin Township woman. Wilson also faces robbery and weapons charges.

Wilson is being held on $500,000 bail.

Authorities say Wilson and the woman knew each other and that he was one of several friends at the woman's home prior to the attack, which allegedly occurred after everyone else had left.

The woman was allegedly beaten with a dumbbell and stabbed repeatedly early Saturday in Franklin Township. She was found outside a neighbor's house. Authorities say the woman is hospitalized in critical condition.
The woman was home alone at the time and a family car was taken. The car was located behind a building at the Rivendell Apartments in Edison on Monday. Wilson was arrested later that evening.

Soriano says the incident was isolated and that the woman was the intended target. The woman's name has not been released.
