JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP - The strong winds and heavy rain that blew through the state late last night caused several trees to fall onto a Jefferson Township home.

Jim Akers tells News 12 New Jersey the storm sounded like a freight train coming through his Longwood Lake Road home. Akers says he feared for his family when he heard the wind howl.

No injuries were reported throughout Morris and Sussex counties, but JCP&L says nearly 9,000 people were without power at one point.

The utility company says it hopes to have power restored soon.
