EDISON - Heavy rain and strong winds are easing across New Jersey as the second phase of a major East Coast storm moves northward toward New England.

Some schools in the northern parts of the state issued a delayed opening this morning due to the weather conditions.

Heavy rain fell across parts of the state last night ahead of the remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole.

News 12 New Jersey meteorologist Dave Curren says rainfall totals reached 4 to 7 inches in some areas before the storm ends later today.
