WILDWOOD - One of New Jersey's few free beaches could begin charging for access this summer.

Wildwood officials are considering a special election in March to ask voters if they want beach fees. Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. says the beach is an expense residents can no longer afford on their own.

It costs Wildwood about $1 million to maintain the beach. The idea was rejected in 1976 and 1981.
