KINNELON - Kinnelon officials released details tonight regarding an outbreak of whooping cough. Local health officials say there have been almost a dozen cases of the bacterial disease recently.

Doctors are warning parents, saying children can be infected even if they have been vaccinated. The disease can last for weeks or even months, according to health officials.

Pediatrician David Weinstein says that most of the recent cases were with 9- and 10-year-old children who were due for a vaccine booster.

Officials tell parents to look for cold-like symptoms and a persistent cough that only gets worse over several days.
