MANASQUAN - The Coast Guard has freed a young humpback whale that became entangled in something off the Jersey Shore.

Experts from Massachusetts were brought in with special tools to the location two miles from the Manasquan Inlet.

Rescuers say the whale was very jumpy because it was frightened, but they were able to free the animal shortly before noon on Friday, and it swam away.

There was no immediate word on its condition.
