WEST NEW YORK - The new mayor of West New York wasted no time in getting to work and fired the town's police director yesterday, just hours after he was sworn in.

Mayor Felix Roque says he fired director Al Bringa after he refused to resign. Roque says the move will save the town nearly $200,000 in salary and benefits, and that two police captains will be brought in to replace Bringa today.

Bringa had worked on the force for 26 years.
