West New York mayor, son arraigned on hacking charges

NEWARK - West New York Mayor Felix Roque and his son were arraigned today on charges that they allegedly hacked into the websites and email accounts of Roque's political opponents.

Roque is accused of trying to harass and intimidate opponents who set up a website last year, called recallroque.com, after Roque defeated incumbent Sal Vega. According to the FBI, Roque's 22-year-old son Joseph hacked into the email account of a person connected to the website. He then gained access to the site and shut it down.

Roque and his son are each facing three federal counts, including computer fraud. Each faces up to 11 years in prison and a $600,000 fine.
