WEST LONG BRANCH - A West Long Branch man says that he was given a summons for flying a Donald Trump flag in front of his house.
Joe Hornick tells News 12 New Jersey that a police officer who drove by his house last month stopped and issued him a ticket for displaying a political sign more than 30 days before an election. Hornick says that he is simply a huge Trump fan and that his flag does not meet the borough’s definition of a political sign.
“Obviously you can see that it’s just a flag, nothing mentioning any elections or a particular party,” says Hornick. “I’m a fan of Trump and so was my mother, who recently passed away. I had these flags at half-mast to represent her passing, and they robbed me and every time they rob me I put the flag back up.”
Hornick says that he will fight the summons in court later this month. He could face a $2,000 fine.
