EDISON - Rain that moved in across the Garden State overnight could keep swollen rivers in northern New Jersey from receding.

News 12 New Jersey meteorologist James Gregorio says an additional half-inch of rain could fall through this afternoon. He says the heaviest rainfall is expected in southern parts of the state.

The Passaic River remains above flood stage at Little Falls and Pine Brook, and motorists continue to face road closures in Paterson.

No major new flooding is expected, but the river could rise somewhat today as the storm moves away by the end of the morning. That means flooding could persist until Friday.
