EDISON - The southern portions of New Jersey were hit by heavy rainfall Wednesday afternoon, with some sections of Atlantic County seeing as much as 4 inches of rain.

Scattered thunderstorms popped up around the state, bringing heavy winds with them. The rain even caused periods of flash flooding along the coast.

News 12 New Jersey Meteorologist Dave Curren says the weather is expected to improve into the late afternoon and evening.

Storms should be gone completely by Wednesday night, and temperatures are expected to cool into the low 70s.

Thursday is expected to see much better weather, with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures should reach the low 80s.

Friday should see mostly sunny skies with temperatures reaching the low 80s as well.
