Weapons report prompts evacuations in Lincoln Park

LINCOLN PARK - Dozens of Lincoln Park residents had to evacuate their homes Sunday after reports that several explosives were found inside an apartment.

Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that a family member cleaning out the apartment of a deceased relative made the discovery. Police evacuated about 90 residents from the Beaver Brook Gardens Apartments on Comly Road.

Residents say the deceased man was a veteran who had lived in the apartment for more than 10 years.

Authorities say weapons were removed from the apartment and secured, but they have not released the identity of the former resident or the person who found the weapons.

Police say no charges have been filed in the incident.

Residents in the area have since been allowed to return into their homes.
