WAYNE - A family left homeless after a devastating Christmas Day fire is getting some help from their hometown of Wayne.

Carol and Chris Schweighardt lost everything when a fire swept through their home on Christmas.

Neighbor and family friend Ruby Stanfield works as a travel agent and has an extensive contact list. She sent a mass message asking for donations to help the Schweighardts get back on their feet while waiting for their insurance to kick in. The response was immediate and overwhelming.

Stanfield says her doorbell has been ringing nonstop. Residents around town have been coming by with donations, gift cards and care packages to help the struggling family.

Stanfield has been encouraging people to donate gift cards to department and grocery stores so that the family can purchase vital items such as food, clothing and toiletries.
