WAYNE - A burglar in Wayne has chosen an unusual mode of transportation as a getaway vehicle.

Police say a serial robber has struck several homes in the North Jersey town since December, and he's fleeing the scenes on a bicycle. The suspect strikes on the weekends at around dusk, and authorities believe he waits until residents leave their homes.

The burglar had been looking for open windows. This past weekend, however, he broke a sliding glass door to gain entry into a home.

Police say the suspect is generally after smaller items like jewelry and cash, because he's unable to transport larger big ticket items like televisions.

Residents are being told to leave lights on when they go out and to keep their eyes out for anything suspicious.
