WAYNE - Passaic County football rivals Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley met on the gridiron tonight for the first time since a fight between students from the schools led to Wayne Hills player suspensions.

Extra police and security were on hand for tonight's game.

Last fall, nine Wayne Hills High School football players were arrested and charged with aggravated assault after the teens allegedly assaulted two Wayne Valley High School students. Police say one of the victims was left unconscious in the middle of the street.

The state's decision to suspend the students sparked controversy because the move came just before the state title game.

Wayne Hills took home the championship that year.

For now, Wayne Valley gets bragging rights, beating Wayne Hills this evening 23 to 17.
