WAYNE - Tears and stress have replaced excitement and joy for many girls who ordered prom gowns from a Wayne dress shop.

Police in Wayne have received numerous complaints from customers of Red Carpet Prom dress shop. The customers say the store failed to fill orders that have already been paid for.

A sign in the window of the shop says it is closed due to "medical issues." The phones have also been disconnected.

Owner Patricia Dowling, 38, of Sewell, filed a police report stating that someone broke into her store this week and took off with about 40 prom dresses.

Police say they are investigating the claim and contacted the seamstress that was working for the store, and were able to get back about 18 of the dresses.
