EDISON - Bret Schundler released a chronology of events today, including e-mails, that he says prove that the Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) used him as a scapegoat.

The governor fired Schundler last week, saying the former education commissioner lied about a mistake on a grant application that cost the state $400 million. Christie last week told reporters Schundler had tried to correct the mistake during a face-to-face meeting, but federal education officials wouldn't let him. Christie then fired Schundler for misleading him about what happened.

E-mails released by Schundler appear to show he told administration officials that he had not corrected the error because he did not know he had made it until it was brought to his attention.
