Volunteers clean up church ravaged by Hurricane Irene

PATERSON - Volunteers worked together to clean up and repair the New Christian Missionary Baptist Church, which was damaged after Hurricane Irene blew through the state last month.

Montclair resident Chavon Wright, who attended the church growing up, said she felt compelled to help out after seeing the damage the hurricane caused. A friend at Montclair State University helped her find volunteers, who pitched in to fix the church back up.

Volunteer Caesar Castro added it was "imperative" to get the church going again, as it also serves as a food pantry to the community. Food pantry services were halted after the hurricane flooded the church's basement out.
