JERSEY CITY - Nearly 1,000 volunteers in Jersey City picked up any and all types of trash in 51 locations Saturday as part of the "Great Jersey City Cleanup."

The event is part of a nationwide effort to beautify communities.

"We just want to make a different environment for ourselves and the community," said Noah Flores, an event volunteer.

The third annual "Jersey City Earth Day Festival" was also be held Saturday at City Hall, featuring interactive and educational workshops, locally produced culinary creations, food trucks and handmade goods.
