Virgin Mary shrine vandalized in Passaic

PASSAIC - Authorities in Passaic are working to determine who vandalized a shrine that surrounded a tree stump supposedly shaped like the Virgin Mary.

A box of lit candles and flower pots were overturned and the glass encasement was smashed at the shrine near Route 21.

The vandalism has since been cleaned up and the stump was not damaged.

A community activist says that he will work with the city to restore the shrine. Police say that no suspects have been identified.
