TRENTON - Democratic Assemblyman Vince Prieto will be taking over as Assembly speaker for the new term.
Prieto will succeed Sheila Oliver, of Essex County, on Jan. 14.
Prieto says he is honored to follow the chamber's first black female leader, who served for four years.

"It could be difficult, it could be easy, you get things accomplished both ways so we'll try and feel that out as it goes along," Prieto says.
Democrats still control both houses of the Legislature, and say they're ready to be a co-equal branch with our returning governor.
The customary votes always come a few days after the election.
