FREEHOLD - Members of the New Jersey community came together to honor the police officers who were shot during a sniper attack in Dallas last week.

The candlelight vigil was held at the Monmouth County Police Academy in Freehold Monday evening. About 1,000 people attended the ceremony to remember and honor the fallen and show support for emergency services personnel nationwide.

At the vigil, flags were flown at half-staff, candles were lit and wreaths were placed in remembrance. Bagpipes played “Amazing Grace.”

Similar vigils were held across the country, including a large one in Dallas.

Five police officers were killed and several others were injured in the attack in Dallas that took place during a peaceful protest against police brutality.

President Barack Obama is expected to attend a memorial service in Dallas on Tuesday.
