RANDOLPH TOWNSHIP - A community came together at a Randolph church to remember two high school football players who were killed in a car accident in Morris County over the weekend.

St. Matthew the Apostle hosted a vigil and prayer service for the two teens.

Jack Timmerman and Calvin Verduga, both rising seniors at Randolph H.S, were sitting in the back seat of another friend's car when it careened off the road, killing them both.

Police say the car was speeding down Ironia Road when the driver lost control and hit a tree Saturday afternoon.

Timmerman and Verduga had been lifting weights at a gym in Randolph, where their classmates picked them up.

Two other students in the car were hospitalized, but it's believed that one has already been released.

A memorial for the two teens has been set up at the site of the accident by family and friends. Many described the young men as "brothers."

Friends say Verduga also played lacrosse, and loved the New York Knicks. Timmerman was described by a friend as a gentle giant. He was also on the wrestling team.

The Randolph High School principal released a statement Monday morning saying that all immediate efforts have been centered around the well-being of the students and faculty who have been impacted by the tragic accident.

Mental health professionals and staff members were available in the high school for those who needed emotional support.

There has been no word from the Morris County Prosecutor's Office if any charges will be filed.
