Vigil held for Patrolman Christopher Matlosz

LAKEWOOD - A candlelight vigil was held tonight in Lakewood's Town Square for fallen Patrolman Christopher Matlosz.

More than a thousand members of the community, including hundreds of police officers, assembled in honor of Matlosz.

Matlosz was gunned down on Friday afternoon during what authorities say was a routine stop on August Drive.

Jahmell W. Crockam, 19, is accused of shooting Matlosz after the officer drove up and began to question him.

More than 100 law enforcement officers had been combing the area for the suspect since the shooting. Crockam was arrested early Sunday morning at an apartment complex in Camden.

Crockam is being held at the Ocean County Jail on $5 million bail. He is scheduled to appear before a judge tomorrow.

The wake for Matlosz will be held Wednesday at the Lakewood Funeral Home on Route 9 in Howell from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The funeral will be held Thursday at St. Mary of the Lake Church in Lakewood at 12 p.m.
