LAKEWOOD - Police in Lakewood arrested an alleged drunken driver at gunpoint following a hit-and-run.

Video captured by The Lakewood Scoop shows an officer pulling the driver out of the car at 9:45 p.m. Saturday.

The car, with visible front-end damage, can be seen in the video continuing to roll until another officer puts on the brakes.

Police were called to the downtown area after reports of a crash, and spotted the driver swerving in and out of traffic. One officer pulled in front the car attempting to stop it, and the vehicle hit the patrol car.

Police say the driver allegedly left the scene of an accident two blocks away.

Lakewood Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein commends the officer. "There was a lot going on," he says. "So here you have an officer who really put himself in danger to stop a very potential danger from happening."

Town officials say they believe the officers were following protocol during the incident.

Authorities have not yet identified the driver.
