BRIDGEWATER - Authorities in Bridgewater have identified the two people killed in an apparent murder-suicide on Monday.

Officials say they found a suicide note at the home of the 19-year-old man who shot and killed the owner of a Bridgewater jewelry store then took his own life.

The gunman was identified as Michael Koury of Bridgewater.

The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office said yesterday that Koury entered the Roy T. Jewelers store at about 4:45 p.m. Monday.

He confronted the adult daughter of store owner Roy Devoe, demanded jewelry and threatened to shoot her. The 55-year-old Devoe then confronted the gunman and was shot in the head.

Authorities said the gunman also fired a shot at the daughter as she fled the store, then slashed his throat with a knife he was carrying before shooting himself in the head.

Police have not found any connection between the Koury and Devoe, but say the investigation is ongoing.
