Verdict expected today in Contreras murder trial

NEW BRUNSWICK - Jurors are expected to deliver a verdict today in the murder trial of Steven Contreras.

The 19-year-old is charged with murder in the 2010 beating death of an Old Bridge man who was out for a late-night stroll with his family. Contreras also faces charges of conspiracy, aggravated assault, criminal mischief, riot and hindering apprehension.

Jurors have reached a unanimous verdict on nine of the 10 counts against him.

Contreras is the first of five defendants to stand trial for the murder of Divyendu Sinha.
