MORRISTOWN - Tree-trimming services and utility companies across the Garden State are working together to make sure power outages are at a minimum during this weekend’s predicted snowstorm.
Proactive residents have been reaching out to the tree services to help them get rid of dead and dying trees and branches. Heavy snow and winds of over 40 mph can cause branches to fall on powerlines, potentially knocking out power for thousands of residents.
Mauricio Fallas, owner of Amazing Tree Service, says that his phones have been ringing off the hook for the past few days. He will also have his crews out during the storm in case of an emergency.
“We are preparing now,” he says. “I’ve got the mechanics and I’ve got all the people working on the equipment to get everything ready.”
Jersey Central Power and Light spokesman Ron Morano says that the power company is also preparing for the storm.
“We have extra analysts and dispatchers on board,” he says. “We’ve got additional contractors and we’ve got additional foresters. Everyone here is on high alert.”
A spokesperson for PSEG also says the company will have extra crews on standby.
Both companies have set up hotlines to help report power outages or downed wires. JCP&L customers should call 1-888-544-4877 and PSEG customers should call 1-800-436-7734.
