ORTLEY BEACH - Some unusually large sinkholes are being reported at several New Jersey beaches, making the shore look more like a roaring rapids.
A huge sinkhole formed at the Fielder Avenue Beach yesterday, swallowing the sand within minutes. Thankfully, no one was injured or killed.
Beachgoers are reporting similar scenes at other beaches, including further north near the Surf Club.
Experts point to several reasons for the sinkholes. They say the cause could be related to the moon, the high tide, or water churning in the Caribbean.
