Union Twp. teacher gets heat for Facebook comments

UNION TOWNSHIP - Officials in the Union Township district are investigating claims that a high school teacher who is faculty adviser to a prayer group posted anti-gay remarks on her Facebook page.

A lawyer who was contacted by a parent says he saw the alleged posts by Viki Knox before they were removed and that he alerted the Union Township district.

Attorney John Paragano says he brought the social networking page to the attention of district administrators. In a letter, he calls the instructor's comments vengeful and demands an investigation.

The New Jersey American Civil Liberties Union defends Knox's rights to post her opinions, but the group also encourages an investigation into her conduct at school.

The group Garden State Equality says Knox's alleged remarks are offensive and calls into question her ability to enforce the state's new anti-bullying laws.
