WESTFIELD - Senior citizens in Union County will be receiving financial assistance to help encourage them to eat Jersey Fresh.
Representatives of the Senior Nutrition program were at the Westfield Community Center Thursday to give out free Farmers Market vouchers.
Low-income seniors can receive up to $20 a year to use on fresh produce in Union County.
Kathleen Malkiewicz, director of the senior nutrition program in Union County, says there are some restrictions. "They can only use at the farmers market, and can't use them at a supermarket," she says. "We have a lot of farmers who participate. It's a nice thing for them, and they look forward to it every year."
To be eligible, the seniors must be 60 or older, live in Union County, and not have a specific income.
The vouchers are being distributed at different sites throughout the summer.
