UNION BEACH - It took Union Beach resident Glenn Cottrell 116 days before he could move his family of five into a three-bedroom mobile home from FEMA, a process he says took too long.

Cottrell’s home was flooded with 6 feet of water and has been rendered unlivable. The painstaking process of getting a temporary housing unit required him to get letters from a building inspector, Monmouth County officials and the mayor.

Cottrell is hoping to follow his neighbor's lead and have his home demolished so he can begin the rebuilding process.

He can also apply for $30,000 in FEMA grant money.

Emergency management officials say other Union Beach families who are rebuilding have either moved in with relatives or into RVs parked outside their damaged properties.
