SOMERSET - A special viewing of a documentary highlighting the Tuskegee Airmen and their role in World War II was shown at the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset Tuesday.
The film was produced by African-American filmmaker and New Jersey native Lawrence Walker.
Retired Tuskegee Airman Malcolm Nettingham spoke at the viewing about what it means to highlight the service of African-Americans in the elite military unit.
"This first class of young African-American men became the nucleus of the elite, all African-American Flight squadrons that performed so brilliantly and courageously during World War II."
Walker is expected to produce another documentary later this summer. It will highlight African-American women and their role during World War II.
