WOODBRIDGE - The Interchange 11 ramp on the New Jersey Turnpike has reopened after a tanker-truck crashed, severely burning the driver.

The crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound ramp to the Garden State Parkway in Woodbridge.

The truck was carrying gasoline and the fire sparked by the crash sent thick, black plumes of smoke and flames shooting into the air. It was extinguished about 40 minutes later.

The driver suffered burns to 90 percent of his body but survived the crash. He was flown to the burn unit at St. Barnabas Medical Center by medical helicopter. His name and condition have not been released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
