TRENTON - President-elect Donald Trump was voted in by the Electoral College Monday despite dozens of protests and calls on electors to deny him the presidency.

Trump was able to secure over the 270 electoral votes needed thanks to the votes from Texas.

Electors had been inundated with emails, phone calls and letters urging them not to support the Republican president-elect.

At least 50 people attended a rally outside the New Jersey State House Monday as New Jersey's 14 presidential electors met to cast their ballots for Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered on the steps of Pennsylvania's Capitol building to also call on electors to deny Trump the presidency. Trump won Pennsylvania's popular vote, which means he gets to pick the people who cast Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes. That's the fifth-most electors in the nation.

Trump beat Clinton by less than 1 percent in Pennsylvania.

The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
