NORTH BRUNSWICK - A tractor-trailer carrying Parmesan cheese crashed on Route 1 in North Brunswick and caused a traffic backup.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Friday near Adams Lane. The truck lost control and smashed into a guard rail and telephone pole. The trailer of the truck split open and spilled packages of cheese all over the sidewalk.

Traffic was backed up for several hours while crews tried to clean up the mess.

The driver tells News 12 New Jersey that he has been on the job for 15 years and had never been in a situation like this before.

No one was seriously injured.
