LAKEHURST - Many of the U.S. troops deployed on rescue and humanitarian missions are trained right in New Jersey.
In Ocean County, the Army and Air Force are training as one, on a fictional island nation located somewhere in the Middle East.
Members of the 615th Contingency Response Wing at Travis Air Force Base train at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst alongside the 689th Rapid Port Opening Element Army soldiers from Fort Eustice, Va. Together, they make up America's 911 Mobility Response Force.
One of the group's main functions is to deploy to remote locations and set up airfield operations so people and supplies can move in and out of the area.
In addition to war efforts, they play an integral role in humanitarian relief efforts across the globe.
