Trial delayed for Keisha Curtis in ‘Patrick the Dog’ case
NEWARK - A trial that was expected to begin today for the woman charged with animal cruelty in the "Patrick the Dog" case has been delayed.
Attorneys for 29-year-old Kisha Curtis asked the judge for an adjournment for additional fact finding. Jury selection is expected to begin in three weeks.
Curtis is accused of tying her pit bull Patrick to a railing in her Newark apartment before leaving the state in 2011. The emaciated dog was later found at the bottom of a trash chute.
Curtis has denied all the charges and rejected a plea offer.
Patrick has since made a full recovery. The case sparked a call for tougher laws against mistreatment of pets.
