CONEY ISLAND - National Grid is lending a helping hand to a Coney Island restaurant badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy.
Gargiulo's Restaurant was given a $100,000 grant to help offset the cost of repairs. The restaurant was able to reopen just over a month after Sandy hit the area. Gargiulo's owner says the rebuilding cost around $4.3 million.
National Grid told News 12 that it wanted to help the restaurant because it has been around for more than 100 years and is an anchor business in the community.
