HEMPSTEAD - A shooting in Hempstead left a man dead Monday evening.

Police closed off a portion of Front Street for hours to investigate the scene.

At around 6:15 p.m., officers found a man lying on the sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds in front of the Hofstra Gardens Apartments, according to authorities. Bullet holes were visible in a nearby car and a law office across the street.

Police described the victim as a Hispanic man in his 30s. Detective Lt. Richard Lebrun said investigators had not yet determined whether the incident was gang related, but he said it did appear intentional.

"We do believe this individual was targeted," he said. "This was not a random act."

Another shooting occurred in the same spot in October 2015.
