Trenton City Council to vote next week on Council President George Muschal’s ouster

Trenton City Council wants to oust Council President George Muschal (4/18/14)

TRENTON - Two months after Trenton's new acting Mayor George Muschal was sworn in, the City Council is already trying to curtail his reign.

The dispute between Muschal and his fellow council members began when the acting mayor suddenly fired Trenton Fire Director Qareeb Bashir last week, without notice.  The mayor claims he did so because the director was "incompetent."

Now, City Councilwoman Kathy McBride says Muschal should be voted out as City Council president, the other position he holds.

Acting Mayor Muschal tells News 12 New Jersey that the dispute is a "political witch hunt." He goes on to say that Councilwoman Mcbride "is running for mayor and she's trying to muster up votes."

A vote has been scheduled for next week for the Council to decide whether or not to replace Muschal as council president.
